Day Two at Beak House

Caught in the act of having a bit of a gossip, here are the young ladies, 2 in the nest box and 2 on the perch and facing one another. They don't like my offerings of chickweed or chopped up grapes but it's early days. These things might look different out in the cold light of the chicken run.

I reached in to remove droppings this morning and to clean out and refill the water pot and the feeder. I think I woke them up! The auto pop-hole opener will have woken them at dawn but when I got there at 7.30 they were sitting on perches and didn't seem bothered about foraging. However, the disturbance of the bit of a clean out got them wing stretching and they all came down for a good drink, a peck at the grit and a good feed. By the lunchtime water-top up they all had good full crops so everyone has eaten.
Day three tomorrow then - big wide world, look out!

oh I adore chickens. I miss having them. That soft coo and cluck and their strut. Ah yes, you are very fortunate.

I think the soft coo sounds like a purr. I take it as a sound of contentment.

Your photos are stunning by the way!

Oh how exciting. The new family members getting all settled in. It does look like they are having a gossip doesnt it? I bet they love their new home.

They are looking settled then Mrs Flum.
Wonder what they were gossiping about? Hope they're comments were encouraging....."Oh she's cleaning up after us! and giving us more food and water - Good ho! might be good here after all!"

I've got my suspicions about what they were saying Granny!
"When she comes in here there's usually something to eat - or fresh water. I wonder who it is that poos in our water?"

I asked them if they did it but they all denied it. Certainly wasn't me!

Is Amber at the back on the right? Girls are looking fab, I suspect they know they've come to Hen Heaven on Earth!

Well spotted Bilbo! It's harder to see in the lower light levels but she really stands out in daylight. I think she's top chook too. She was first out of the house (and first back in to check if I'd left treats in as well as fresh Easibed!)
