Poor Ruby, after being obviously off colour for a while, went downhill on Wednesday and went to see the vet. Sadly, he found a lump on her liver - either a tumour or an abcess, he thought - which was probably causing internal bleeding. Poor girl. Sad to take a chicken with you and not bring her home.

That is sad, but she had some very happy times with you I'm sure.

But... it's the time of year to start thinking about sourcing new pullets ;-)

She did have a brilliant life with you and the other rock chicks!

But in her months with you Ruby had the most wonderful life, best care and attention a little chook could ask for, and a calm end.

Strangely, Celia, we were already considering adding a couple more, maybe in March or April. As soon as we feel ready to face the inevitable fisticuffs!
